More EFT Information

September 03, 2008

Mark from Down Under wants to know if EFT works to neutralize future negative feelings like anxiety at a later time. Also can EFT benefit while on antidepressants?

Today I'm answering Mark's two questions, from Down Under: you ask, 1) when you're not feeling anxiety but anticipating it, feeling calm, would it be useful to use EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to handle a situation that's not happening now, but may happen at another juncture? I say, Yes. Visualize yourself in that particular situation that would cause you stress and anxiety, and then create a rating of 1-10 of what that might be for you, then proceed to do the EFT. It will work equally well, because you are working to neutralize a situation where you have experienced anxiety previously, and may experience again in the future. EFT works even if you're calm in the moment, but you're doing EFT for something that may occur at another time.

(1:15) 2) EFT with an SSRI (an antidepressant) and you'd like to be off the antidepressant. Clearly you need to speak to your doctor about that. Also, if you're looking to replace the antidepressant with EFT, I'm not a doctor, and obviously you need to be consulting with medical professionals about this. In addition, you can speak with your doctor about possibly using EFT, with meditation and other natural supplements like 5HTP, fish oils, B vitamins, mindfulness meditation, as a way to slowly, gently and organically ease yourself from the chemical antidepressant to a more natural antidepressant. But clearly you need to be consulting with your medical people, always, if you're going to be doing that. EFT is not a replacement for the medical antidepressant but it would assist anyone with an antidepressant, looking to transition to a more natural way. I do believe there is a place for antidepressants, and I believe EFT is an excellent adjunct. EFT and an antidepressant work well together. Mark, I hope that helps you, and that the weather is lovely there.
