Getting Over Your Poverty Thinking

September 25, 2008 – 6:58

Oksana from Moscow struggles with being paid her value as a teacher of wealthy executives. I explore some of the underlying beliefs that may keep her and everyone in this pattern of continued poverty thinking.

Today I am answering a viewer question. Oksana from Moscow—I love it when it's international!—you're up! You write that you're a language teacher, and you teach executives English in Moscow (good job! I'm sure there's a massive market for that), but what you complain about is that you don't feel that you get paid enough, or are not respected enough, and your other colleagues seem to negotiate better contracts, and  your clients aren't taking care of your best interests, and you're not able to get out of this pattern of getting paid less than you feel what you are worth.

(1:00) Firstly, this is a prosperity consciousness issue, and that is what I want to address: your sense of how you feel in terms of value and money and those topics. I hear, from your letter, that you're giving your clients a lot of the power: you expect them to take care of your best interests. I hear that you expect them to take care of your financial needs. Oksana, you need to analyze those beliefs. You need to look at your wealth beliefs, money beliefs that you inherited from your family, and also beliefs that you have culturally about wealth and wealthy people. I also hear you talk about the wealthy, greedy people, people who aren't very kind. The only way you're going to start to embody a wealthy attitude and a wealthy life, where you have more money and command more money, is if you really want to be one of those wealthy people. And if you have a belief system that says, “I don't want to be one of those greedy, rich people,” you're probably unconsciously blocking your ability to bring and manifest money towards you.

(2:20) Firstly, let's clean that up with some good affirmations. I want you to read three authors: Bob Proctor, You Were Born Rich, excellent book, he's a wonderful author, you can order that book on the Internet, and you will slowly start to change your belief systems around wealthy people and wealth in general. Also Stuart Wild, The Trick to Money Is Having Some, and he talks about attitudes towards wealth. Also T. Harv Ecker, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. Notice that what I'm talking about is belief systems. Your belief systems that are unconscious are overpowering you—they overpower all of us. That is why we do therapy, to find out what is unconsciously in our belief systems, so that they don't control us. The only way to have control over our beliefs is to know precisely what our unconscious and subconscious beliefs are. And in your case, I want you to get a hold of the beliefs you're not entirely aware of. And the only way to open that up and analyze it is to expose yourself to these materials, where you'll start to ask, “What are my beliefs about wealthy people? What are my beliefs around having a lot of money? Do I feel like that is not a desirable place to be? Am I afraid people will be jealous of me? Am I afraid if I have money, it will be too complicated or I won't be able to manage it?” Maybe those are things you aren't conscious of, Oksana, but you have to get clear about what your unconscious beliefs are.

(4:00) Also, you've got to look at your vibration. Once you become clearly aware of what your beliefs are, you're going to be clear about what your vibration is. And if your vibration is of poverty, “I am not enough. I am not worthy. I don't deserve a lot. I'm a small, disempowered person,” you're sending out that vibration. You are walking into a room with that vibration. And I've mentioned in other videos, like attracts like, so whatever vibration you're at, if it's poverty consciousness, you'll attract that kind of treatment towards you, and those kinds of people towards you. When you are transitioning towards better, more empowered, prosperous beliefs, be willing to let go of those clients who don't honour you. Because you're going to start drawing boundaries and contracts before you engage in a teaching situation with these people. You're going to have to establish, “This is my price, this is what I'd like to be paid,” and people may say no, and you need to be willing to let them go. There may be a big space left, but nature abhors a void, so trust in life, Oksana, that the void you create by saying no to the clients who don't honour you, will be filled (I promise you!) with people who do want to honour your beliefs. When you are in that space, “ooh, I let go of those clients because they don't honour me,” do affirmations, like, “I deserve to be rich because I add value to other people's lives. I am a generous receiver and an excellent giver. I believe money is important, money is freedom, and makes life more enjoyable.” I also want to give you this one about rich people: “I admire and model rich and successful people.” Watch the wealthy people and try to watch your mind about criticizing or judging them, because after all, you want to be one of them. So get into an admiration place about them.

(6:30) Oksana, I wish you tremendous luck—you won't need it if you do these things, read these books. Keep me informed!
